Session 1 - Maiden Voyage
Shipwrecked
On a voyage from the Freetowns to the Keiran Empire hauling lumber, the good ship Adrienne became wrecked upon the shores of the Torath-Ka - The Savage Land! Listing and on fire, Captain Jonas was forced to beached the vessel. Once back on terra-firma he asked the intrepid foursome consisting of Count Basie, Chubby Checker, Muddy Waters and John Lee to recon the general area and see if they could rustle up some provisions. The rest of the crew remained to unload what supplies and cargo they could from the now beached Adrienne.
Having a look-see
The party proceeded a few miles down a beach bordered by thick, repressive and humid jungle before coming upon a small beached skiff. Upon investigating the craft they found her bottom to be ripped out and completely stripped of ropes, sails and provisions. Whilst checking out the boat a loud crashing noise was heard from the nearby jungle...
Lizards gizzard
From the jungle appeared a Yellowback, an giant upright lizard, vicious and toothsome, looking for a man-size snack. It charged the party but was brought down swiftly by a crack shot from Muddy Waters musket.
Whilst celebrating their quick and easy victory, the Count noticed smoke from the direction of the Adrienne, where the rest of the crew were unloading the ship.
The missing crew
Leaving the lizard carcass, the party hurried back to the Adrienne to find her now burnt to the waterline. The crew, the unloaded provisions and cargo were all missing. Signs of a bloody struggle were in evidence, as were drag marks leading into the dense, foreboding jungle.
Welcome to the jungle
The brave comrades quickly set off into the foliage after the missing crew, however, not far in the trail became harder and harder to follow. Without any skills in tracking the party became hopelessly turned about and lost.
Lost and found
Realising the predicament the party now found themselves in, John Lee shimmied up a large tree to a point where he could see over the jungle canopy. After getting his bearings he led the part back to the beach. Though Chubby Checker was able to keep the party well provisioned with his 'magic water' (slightly yellow and a bit salty to the taste) the days exertions had set bellies rumbling. What better than to nip back to the where they slew the Yellowback for a good old fashion lizard bbq?
Lizards gizzard part 2
Returning to the scene of their lizard conquering of earlier that day, the party found another Yellowback already feasting upon the carcass. Shots were fired, mighty spells were slung and swords were swung and soon another Yellowback was dead at their feet. After dragging the lizard back to the Adrienne and some gutting, filleting and bbq'ing, their bellies were soon replenished. Loins were girded and they once again were ready to brave the jungle...
Lost... again
Alas it was not long before the oarsome foursome became disorientated and lost within the jungle once again. Whilst deciding on what to do, Count Basie heard something heading their way. The party quickly attempted to hide just a three Redmen, the vicious humanoid inhabitants of Torath-Ka, came into view. Unfortunately, the parties ability to hide was even worse than their ability to track and a Redman fracas soon erupted.
Red man barney
For the third time that day the jungle rang to the sounds of guns, spells and swords. After a tough and bloody battle the Redmen were killed and killed good. The party were then able to find and follow the path the Redmen had came down, leading them to a clearing in the jungle...
Red pool at night, fisherman's delight
In the centre of the clearing was a large red pool, bubbling away. At one end of the pool was large statue of a giant monk-ape. Standing before the statue, gesticulating wildly, was a Redman Shaman surround by 9 Redmen warriors. Bound and kneeling in front of the red pool were the remaining surviving crew. Whilst the party looked on the shaman gave a roar and kicked a crewman into the pool. He sank screaming in agony. As the party watched in horror another crewman was similarly dispatched by the wailing Shaman. It was quickly decided to take out the Shaman with extreme prejudice.
Harming the Shaman
With muskets and magic bolts all focused on the one target, the Shaman was blasted into the afterlife. His head was burst asunder like an over-ripe watermelon. After a short period of confusion the Redmen massed to confront their foes.
Red Man barney part 2
Some Redmen charged over to melee with the stout adventures however one continued to shove the prisoners into the red pool. A crack shot from John Lee put a quick end to that behaviour and the battle was joined. After a brutal fight in which Count Basie miraculously survived a mighty blow that would have killed ten lesser bred men, the party was victorious. However before the flush of victory could be fully enjoyed a rumbling from the red pool was heard...
WTF! A 20 foot monkey?!
From the pool arose a giant monk-ape, summoned by the Shaman's sacrifice of the crew just before he was blown apart. Towering over 20 foot in height, the mighty beast grabbed Kip the cabin boy, who was still bound and kneeling before the pool. Poor Kip was hurled in to the nearby jungle, battered and broken (and with seriously soiled underpants). The ape then leapt into combat and began to wildly swipe away at the party. Luckily his swings missed his targets. The Count and Muddy swatted away at the beast, primate to primate, alas with little effect, whilst Chubby dragged the last surviving crew member from the edge of the pool. The Count and Muddy adjusted their swings and began to concentrate their blows upon the apes enormous happy-sack. This further enraged the creature but still was not enough to bring him down
The bigger they are, the harder they fall
From the safety of the jungle ,John Lee was taking careful aim at monkey's noggin with his blunderbuss. He sent his shot straight and true. The beast's head was burst asunder, showering the Count, Chubby and Muddy with blood and brains. A quiet calm descended over the jungle clearing, punctuated only by the soft moaning from Kip the cabin boy, lying somewhere nearby in the undergrowth.
Loose ends
After regrouping, the party recovered the stolen supplies and poor Kip from the jungle and made their way back to the beach. After a night of rest and recuperation the skiff was quickly repaired using the lumber and spare sails recovered from the Adrienne. That night the crew sat around a cheery bonfire on the beach, munching lizard and monk-ape ball soup and swigging down Chubby's 'Magic Water'. Where to set sail on the morning tide was discussed late into the night...
